The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) processed the vast majority of applications under its RBI Citizen’s Charter within set timelines in October 2026. Out of 15,186 applications processed during the month, an impressive 99.9% were completed on time. This highlights the central bank’s strong commitment to service delivery standards.
Key Details of RBI Citizen’s Charter Performance
At the start of October 2026, 2,666 applications were pending. The RBI received 15,725 fresh applications during the month. Additionally, 707 applications were referred back to applicants for more information. This brought the total workload to 17,684 applications.
Of the 15,186 applications processed, 15,164 were resolved within the prescribed timeline. Only 22 applications — just 0.1% — were processed beyond the deadline. Therefore, the RBI maintained an exceptionally high on-time processing rate throughout the month.
At the month’s end, 2,498 applications remained pending. Of these, 99.4% were still within their allowed timelines. Meanwhile, only 15 applications (0.6%) were delayed — 13 awaiting inputs from external agencies and 2 still under process.
Function-Wise Breakdown and What This Means for Applicants
The largest volume came from Currency Management (6,924 applications) and Banker to Banks and Governments (6,497 applications). Foreign Exchange Management received 2,167 applications, however, it also recorded 13 beyond-timeline pending cases linked to external agency delays. Regulation and Supervision processed 687 applications, with 15 resolved beyond the deadline.
As a result of these figures, applicants can feel confident that the RBI is resolving most requests promptly. The total number of services listed under the Charter now stands at 206 as of October 31, 2026. This reflects the wide scope of the RBI’s public-facing operations.
