RBI Government Bond Auction Results Today

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the government bond auction results for two key securities. The RBI government bond auction saw full subscription, with no devolvement on Primary Dealers for either security.

Government Bond Auction: Key Results

The 6.53% Government Security maturing in 2031 carried a notified amount of ₹19,000 crore. The cut-off price was set at ₹96.65, reflecting an implicit yield of 7.3589% at cut-off. Additionally, the RBI accepted the full ₹19,000 crore in this auction.

Meanwhile, the 7.71% Government Security maturing in 2066 had a notified amount of ₹14,000 crore. Its cut-off price was ₹97.30, with an implicit yield of 7.9339% at cut-off. The RBI also accepted the complete ₹14,000 crore for this longer-dated bond.

What This Means for Investors and Markets

Both securities recorded zero devolvement on Primary Dealers. This signals healthy demand from the market for government securities. As a result, the auctions can be considered a success for the central bank’s borrowing programme.

The longer-dated 2066 bond naturally carries a higher yield than the 2031 security. However, both yields reflect current market conditions and investor appetite. Therefore, these results give a useful snapshot of where the market prices sovereign risk across different maturities.

For example, a cut-off yield of 7.9339% on the 2066 bond shows investors demand a higher return for locking in capital over four decades. Meanwhile, the 2031 bond’s yield of 7.3589% reflects shorter-term expectations for interest rates in India.

Why It Matters for the Banking Sector

Government securities are a core holding for Indian banks and financial institutions. Additionally, these auction results influence bond pricing across the broader fixed-income market. Banks use these benchmarks to price loans, deposits, and other financial products.

The RBI conducts these auctions regularly as part of the government’s market borrowing programme. Successful auctions with full acceptance, like this one, help the government raise funds smoothly. As a result, they support public spending without disrupting the money markets.

This auction result was announced by Ajit Prasad, Deputy General Manager (Communications) at the RBI, under Press Release 2026-2027/1374.
