RBI Treasury Bill Auction: ₹23,000 Crore on Oct 14

The Reserve Bank of India has announced a RBI treasury bill auction worth ₹23,000 crore, scheduled for October 14, 2026. This auction covers three tenors — 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day Treasury Bills. Investors and institutions should take note of the key dates and participation rules.

Key Details of the RBI Treasury Bill Auction

The RBI will auction ₹8,000 crore worth of 91-day T-Bills and ₹8,000 crore of 182-day T-Bills. Additionally, the central bank will offer ₹7,000 crore in 364-day Treasury Bills. Therefore, the total notified amount across all three tenors comes to ₹23,000 crore.

The auction will take place on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Settlement, however, will happen the following day — Thursday, October 15, 2026. The RBI will conduct this auction using a price-based multiple price method.

Competitive bids must be submitted via the RBI’s E-Kuber system between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM. Non-competitive bids, meanwhile, must be placed between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM. The RBI will announce results on the same day as the auction.

Who Can Participate and How

Several entities can participate on a non-competitive basis. These include State Governments, Union Territories with legislature, eligible Provident Funds, and designated Foreign Central Banks. Importantly, their allocation sits outside the notified amount.

Individual retail investors can also join the RBI treasury bill auction on a non-competitive basis. However, their allocation is capped at a maximum of 5% of the notified amount. As a result, retail participation remains accessible but limited in scale.

Retail investors can place bids conveniently through the RBI Retail Direct portal. This platform makes it easy for individuals to invest directly in government securities. For example, first-time investors can register and bid entirely online.

Backup Procedures and Contact Details

In the event of a system failure, the RBI will accept physical bids. Participants must submit these to the Public Debt Office before the auction deadline. The prescribed form is available on the RBI website.
