RBI Treasury Bill Auction: ₹23,000 Crore on Oct 28

The Reserve Bank of India has announced a RBI treasury bill auction worth ₹23,000 crore, scheduled for October 28, 2026. The auction covers three tenors: 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day Treasury Bills. Settlement will take place on October 29, 2026.

Key Details of the RBI Treasury Bill Auction

The notified amounts are ₹8,000 crore each for the 91-day and 182-day bills. Additionally, the 364-day bill carries a notified amount of ₹7,000 crore. Together, these three instruments total ₹23,000 crore for this single auction event.

The RBI will conduct the auction using a price-based, multiple-price method. Competitive bids must be submitted on E-Kuber between 10:30 am and 11:30 am. Non-competitive bids, however, must be submitted by 11:00 am on the same day.

Results will be announced on the auction date itself. Therefore, successful bidders should be ready to make payment by October 29, 2026.

Who Can Participate and How

Retail investors can participate in this RBI treasury bill auction on a non-competitive basis. For example, individual investors can place bids directly through the RBI Retail Direct portal at rbiretaildirect.org.in. However, retail allocations are capped at a maximum of 5% of the notified amount.

State Governments, Union Territories with legislature, eligible Provident Funds, and designated Foreign Central Banks can also participate on a non-competitive basis. Importantly, their allocations will be outside the notified amount. This makes the auction accessible to a wide range of institutional participants.

All bids must be submitted electronically via the RBI’s E-Kuber system. Only in the event of a system failure will physical bids be accepted. In such cases, bidders should contact the Public Debt Office at 022-22603456 or 022-22603457.

As a result of technical difficulties, bidders can also reach the Core Banking Operations Team at 022-69870466. For other auction-related issues, the IDMD auction team is available at 022-22702431. Meanwhile, bid forms are downloadable from the RBI website.

This auction falls under the terms of General Notification F.No.4(2)-B(W&M)/2018 dated March 26, 2025, as amended. Read the official RBI press release here.
