The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a treasury bill auction worth ₹23,000 crore, scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The auction covers three maturities — 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day treasury bills. Settlement will take place the following day, on October 8, 2026.
Key Details of the Treasury Bill Auction
The RBI will auction ₹8,000 crore worth of 91-day bills and ₹8,000 crore of 182-day bills. Additionally, ₹7,000 crore will be offered under the 364-day category. Together, these three tranches bring the total notified amount to ₹23,000 crore.
The auction will use a price-based, multiple-price method. Competitive bids must be submitted via the RBI’s E-Kuber system between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM. Non-competitive bids, however, must reach the system by 1:00 PM on the same day. Results will be announced on auction day itself.
Only in the event of a system failure will physical bids be accepted. In that case, bidders should contact the Public Debt Office at 022-22603456 or 022-22603457 before the auction window closes.
Who Can Participate and How
State governments, Union Territories with legislature, eligible provident funds, and designated foreign central banks can all participate on a non-competitive basis. Importantly, their allocation will be outside the notified amount. Therefore, it will not affect the main auction figures.
Individual retail investors can also join the treasury bill auction on a non-competitive basis. However, their allocation is capped at a maximum of 5 percent of the notified amount. Retail investors can conveniently place bids through the RBI Retail Direct portal at rbiretaildirect.org.in.
For technical issues with E-Kuber, bidders should contact the Core Banking Operations Team at 022-69870466. Meanwhile, for other auction-related queries, the IDMD auction team is reachable at 022-22702431. Successful bidders must complete payment by October 8, 2026.
This auction is conducted under the terms of the General Notification F.No.4(2)-B(W&M)/2018 dated March 26, 2025, issued by the Government of India. As a result, all standard rules and amendments apply to this offering.
