RBI VRR Auction Results: October 26, 2026

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducted a Variable Rate Repo (VRR) auction on October 26, 2026. The 4-day auction drew strong demand from banks, reflecting active liquidity management in the system. Here are the key results from this latest RBI VRR auction.

Key Details of the RBI VRR Auction

The RBI notified an amount of ₹1,50,000 crore for this 4-day Variable Rate Repo auction. However, total bids received crossed that limit significantly, reaching ₹1,86,666 crore. As a result, the central bank allotted ₹1,50,007 crore to eligible bidders. The partial allotment percentage at the cut-off rate stood at 85.07%.

The cut-off rate for the auction was set at 5.55%. Meanwhile, the weighted average rate came in slightly higher at 5.59%. Therefore, banks collectively accepted marginally tighter pricing to secure short-term funds from the RBI.

What This Means for Banking Liquidity

The strong overbidding in this VRR auction signals that banks actively sought short-term liquidity from the RBI. Additionally, the weighted average rate of 5.59% suggests competitive bidding among participants. This indicates healthy demand for funds in the banking system.

For example, when bids significantly exceed the notified amount, it reflects tighter liquidity conditions in the market. However, the RBI’s allotment of ₹1,50,007 crore ensures adequate short-term funding support. As a result, interbank liquidity conditions are expected to remain stable over the 4-day tenor.

Why This Auction Matters

Variable Rate Repo auctions are a key tool the RBI uses to manage day-to-day liquidity. Through these auctions, banks borrow funds from the central bank at market-determined rates. Therefore, the cut-off and weighted average rates serve as important indicators of prevailing money market conditions.

Additionally, monitoring VRR auction results helps analysts gauge the RBI’s liquidity stance. A cut-off rate close to the repo rate signals that the central bank is maintaining its policy corridor effectively. This latest auction result is consistent with the RBI’s broader objective of orderly liquidity management.
