RBI VRRR Auction Set for November 4, 2026

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will conduct a second overnight VRRR auction on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF). The central bank reviewed current and evolving liquidity conditions before making this decision. As a result, banks will have a short window to participate in this one-day reverse repo operation.

Key Details of the VRRR Auction

The RBI has notified an auction amount of ₹25,000 crore for this overnight operation. The tenor is one day, making it a short-term liquidity management tool. Banks can submit their bids between 12:15 PM and 12:45 PM on November 4, 2026. Additionally, the reversal of funds will take place the following day, Thursday, November 5, 2026.

The operational guidelines for this VRRR auction remain unchanged. Therefore, the RBI will follow the same framework outlined in Press Release 2019-2020/1947, dated February 13, 2020. Participating banks should refer to that circular for procedural details.

What This VRRR Auction Means for the Banking System

A Variable Rate Reverse Repo auction allows the RBI to absorb excess liquidity from the banking system. By doing so, the central bank manages short-term interest rates and keeps monetary conditions stable. This overnight VRRR auction signals that the RBI is actively monitoring surplus liquidity in the system.

For banks, this is an opportunity to park short-term surplus funds with the RBI at a market-determined rate. Meanwhile, the move helps the central bank fine-tune liquidity without committing to a longer-term absorption. Such auctions have become a regular part of the RBI’s liquidity management toolkit in recent years.

Why It Matters for Indian Banking

Liquidity management remains a key focus for the RBI in the current monetary policy cycle. Regular VRRR auctions help the central bank align overnight rates closer to the policy repo rate. As a result, these operations support smoother transmission of monetary policy signals to the broader economy. For example, stable overnight rates help banks price loans and deposits more efficiently.

Investors and treasury teams at Indian banks should take note of the tight 30-minute bidding window. However, the process itself follows well-established guidelines, so participation should be straightforward. The RBI is expected to continue using such tools as liquidity conditions evolve in the coming months.
