India’s foreign exchange reserves fell slightly in the week ending June 19, 2026, according to the latest RBI weekly statistical data. The total reserves stood at ₹63,46,007 crore, equivalent to US$ 672.6 billion. However, this represents a weekly dip of US$ 963 million on a net basis.
Foreign Exchange Reserves: Key Details
Foreign currency assets, the largest component, declined by US$ 3,072 million during the week. Gold reserves, meanwhile, rose sharply by ₹30,818 crore, adding US$ 4,110 million. As a result, gold continued to support overall reserve stability. On a year-on-year basis, total reserves are still higher by ₹3,02,310 crore in rupee terms.
SDR holdings dropped marginally by ₹1,924 crore for the week. Additionally, India’s reserve position at the IMF declined by ₹650 crore. Therefore, all sub-components except gold saw a weekly decrease.
Bank Credit and Deposits: What the Data Shows
Scheduled commercial banks reported total aggregate deposits of ₹2,58,41,605 crore as on June 15, 2026. This reflects a year-on-year growth of 12 per cent, a strong signal for the banking sector. However, deposits fell by ₹1,60,500 crore during the latest fortnight.
Bank credit grew 17.7 per cent year-on-year, reaching ₹2,15,47,116 crore. Non-food credit, for example, rose by over ₹31,66,864 crore compared to a year ago. Additionally, the M3 money supply stood at ₹3,12,20,737 crore as on June 15, recording an 11.9 per cent annual increase.
RBI Liquidity Operations This Week
The RBI actively managed liquidity through its Standing Deposit Facility throughout the week. Net absorption remained consistently high, reflecting surplus banking system liquidity. For example, on June 18, net absorption reached ₹1,91,408 crore — the highest single-day figure for the period.
Variable rate repo operations injected funds on select days, including ₹89,440 crore on June 16. Meanwhile, Marginal Standing Facility usage stayed minimal across the week. Therefore, the RBI weekly statistical data confirms a comfortable but monitored liquidity environment in Indian banking.
State government advances from the RBI also declined sharply, falling by ₹9,559 crore during the week to ₹9,211 crore as on June 19, 2026.
