RBI Citizen’s Charter: June 2026 Update

The Reserve Bank of India processed 18,577 applications under its RBI Citizen’s Charter in June 2026. Of these, an impressive 99.9% were completed within the stipulated timeline. This highlights the central bank’s continued commitment to timely public service delivery.

Key Details of RBI Citizen’s Charter Performance

At the start of June 2026, the RBI carried 2,554 pending applications. During the month, it received 19,177 fresh applications. Additionally, 541 applications were referred back to applicants for more information, bringing the total workable count to 21,190.

Of the 18,577 applications processed, 18,563 were resolved within the deadline. Only 14 applications — just 0.1% — crossed the prescribed timeline. As a result, 2,613 applications remained pending at month-end, with 2,595 still within timeline and 18 beyond it.

The 18 overdue pending cases are largely due to external factors. Specifically, 15 are awaiting inputs from external agencies, while 3 are still under active processing.

Function-Wise Breakdown and What It Means for Applicants

The RBI Citizen’s Charter covers a wide range of banking functions. The Banker to Banks and Governments segment handled the largest volume — 8,647 applications — and cleared every single one within the deadline. However, Currency Management and Foreign Exchange Management reported some delays.

Foreign Exchange Management received 2,365 applications. Meanwhile, 1,039 of those are pending within the timeline, and 15 have crossed it. Regulation and Supervision also showed a notable pending count of 704 within-timeline cases, signalling a heavier workload in that segment.

For applicants, therefore, most services remain on track. The data suggests that delays are largely isolated to departments dependent on third-party inputs.

RBI Expands Charter to 213 Services

The RBI also announced updates to its Citizen’s Charter following a recent internal review. The central bank added 14 new services to the charter. Additionally, it modified the processing timelines for four existing services. As a result, the total number of services under the charter now stands at 213.

This expansion reflects the RBI’s ongoing effort to improve transparency and accountability. For consumers and businesses alike, a broader charter means greater access to formally committed service standards from India’s central bank.
