The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released its RBI money market operations data for July 1, 2026. The report shows strong overnight market activity, with total volumes crossing ₹7 lakh crore. Additionally, the central bank absorbed significant liquidity through its standing deposit facility.
Key Details of Money Market Activity
The overnight segment recorded a total volume of ₹7,02,044 crore. The weighted average rate for this segment stood at 5.23%, within a range of 4.00% to 5.50%. Triparty Repo dominated the overnight market, contributing ₹5,07,156 crore at a weighted average rate of 5.22%. Meanwhile, Call Money volumes reached ₹21,115 crore, with rates averaging 5.28%.
The term segment saw comparatively lower activity. Notice Money transactions totalled ₹71.50 crore, while Term Money volumes reached ₹1,580 crore. Term Triparty Repo recorded ₹2,555 crore at a rate of 5.20%. However, Repo in Corporate Bond under the term segment saw no transactions on this date.
RBI Liquidity Operations and Reserve Position
Under today’s RBI money market operations, the central bank conducted a Variable Rate Repo auction worth ₹29,695 crore for a 2-day tenor at a cut-off rate of 5.26%. The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) saw minimal borrowing of just ₹78 crore at 5.50%. As a result, the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) absorbed a much larger ₹1,27,600 crore at 5.00%.
Net liquidity from today’s operations showed an absorption of ₹97,827 crore. Therefore, including outstanding operations, the net liquidity position stood at a deficit of ₹86,468 crore. The Standing Liquidity Facility availed from RBI amounted to ₹11,358.82 crore.
What This Means for Banking Liquidity
Scheduled commercial banks held cash balances of ₹8,77,701.88 crore with the RBI as on July 1, 2026. For example, the average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending July 15, 2026 is set at ₹7,98,115 crore. This indicates that banks currently hold reserves well above the mandatory requirement. Additionally, net durable liquidity as on June 15, 2026 remained in surplus at ₹4,82,130 crore, reflecting comfortable systemic liquidity conditions overall.
