The Reserve Bank of India will conduct a government securities auction on July 17, 2026, raising ₹32,000 crore for the Government of India. This RBI government securities auction covers three dated securities across different maturities. The settlement will take place on July 20, 2026 (Monday).
Key Details of the RBI Government Securities Auction
The auction includes three securities. First, the 6.03% GS 2029 (maturing January 27, 2029) carries a notified amount of ₹11,000 crore. Second, the 6.68% GS 2033 (maturing January 27, 2033) also has a notified amount of ₹11,000 crore. Third, the 7.24% GS 2055 (maturing August 18, 2055) carries ₹10,000 crore.
Additionally, the Government of India may retain extra subscriptions of up to ₹2,000 crore against each security. Therefore, the total amount raised could exceed the base target. The auction will use the multiple price method.
Bidders must submit all bids electronically through the RBI’s e-Kuber system. Non-competitive bids are accepted between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Meanwhile, competitive bids must arrive between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Primary Dealers can submit underwriting bids from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
What This Means for Investors
Retail investors can also participate through the RBI Retail Direct portal at rbiretaildirect.org.in. Up to 5% of each security’s notified amount is reserved for non-competitive bidders. As a result, individual investors gain easy access to government bonds without competing on yield.
The securities are eligible for “When Issued” trading from July 14 to July 17, 2026. They will also qualify for repo transactions under RBI’s Master Direction on Repurchase Transactions. Non-resident investors may participate under the Fully Accessible Route guidelines.
The RBI will credit successful bidders through their Subsidiary General Ledger (SGL) or Constituents’ SGL accounts. Interest payments on these government securities are generally made half-yearly. However, the specific notification confirms the exact coupon payment schedule for each security.
