RBI VRR Auction Set for June 29, 2026

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will conduct a Variable Rate Repo auction on Monday, June 29, 2026. This decision follows a careful review of current and evolving liquidity conditions in the banking system. The auction offers banks a short-term borrowing window worth ₹75,000 crore.

Key Details of the Variable Rate Repo Auction

The RBI has notified a single-tranche VRR auction with a tenor of two days. Banks can submit bids between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM on June 29, 2026. As a result, the reversal date falls on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. The notified amount stands at ₹75,000 crore.

Additionally, the RBI will follow the same operational guidelines used for previous auctions. These guidelines were first outlined in Press Release 2021-2022/1572, dated January 20, 2022. Therefore, participating banks should already be familiar with the process.

What This Means for Banks and Liquidity

The Variable Rate Repo auction is a key tool the RBI uses to manage short-term liquidity in the financial system. Through this mechanism, banks borrow funds from the RBI for a fixed period at a market-determined rate. However, the central bank retains control over the total amount available. This helps maintain stability in overnight and short-term money markets.

Meanwhile, the timing of this auction signals that the RBI is closely monitoring system-wide liquidity. For example, a ₹75,000 crore infusion over two days can ease any temporary tightness banks may face around month-end. As a result, this move supports smoother interbank lending and credit flow.

Indian banks regularly participate in such auctions under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) framework. The LAF allows the RBI to fine-tune daily liquidity conditions effectively. Additionally, these auctions complement other tools like the Standing Deposit Facility and the Marginal Standing Facility.

How to Participate

Eligible scheduled commercial banks can submit bids through the RBI’s e-Kuber platform. The VRR auction window opens at 9:30 AM and closes at 10:00 AM on June 29. Banks should review the detailed operational guidelines from the January 2022 press release before participating. For further details, visit the official RBI press release.
